The Challenge

During previous holiday flash sales, the customer's monolithic inventory database locked up under concurrent checkout requests, dropping thousands of orders and causing overselling disasters.

The Architectural Solution

Step 1

Decoupled SQS Direct Integration

Connected AWS API Gateway directly to Amazon SQS without Lambda compute in the critical ingestion path, providing infinite instant elasticity with zero cold-start delay.

Step 2

Idempotent Event Routing

Configured EventBridge rules with schema registry validation and dead-letter queues (DLQs) to prevent duplicate charges and isolate failing microservices.

Step 3

Single-Table DynamoDB Design

Designed a high-performance DynamoDB single-table schema with atomic counters for inventory reservation, achieving consistent sub-5ms read and write latencies.

“We sailed through our highest-traffic Black Friday in company history without a single page alert or checkout glitch. Our AWS bill actually came in 40% lower than last year.”
